Algeria and Somalia have solidified their partnership through the signing of several cooperation agreements, aimed at bolstering bilateral relations across vital sectors. The signing ceremony was presided over by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, alongside his Somali counterpart, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
A significant memorandum of understanding was established between the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Somali Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education. This agreement focuses on enhancing collaboration in higher education, including a joint executive program spanning from 2026 to 2029. The program is designed to foster academic and research exchange between the two nations.
On the economic front, agreements were signed to promote cooperation in agriculture and fisheries, as well as in animal health. These initiatives aim to facilitate the exchange of expertise and the development of livestock and agricultural production in both countries. These agreements represent a significant step towards economic diversification and food security.
Furthermore, an agreement was formalized in the fields of oil, gas, and mining, underscoring the mutual desire to strengthen cooperation in the energy and mineral sectors. This agreement highlights the strategic importance of these sectors in the bilateral relationship.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of an agreement exempting holders of diplomatic passports from visa requirements. This measure underscores the deep fraternal ties between Algeria and Somalia and their commitment to facilitating communication and expanding opportunities for joint collaboration. This agreement will ease travel and promote closer diplomatic ties.
