Algiers, November 11, 2025 – Somalia is fully prepared to deepen its strategic partnership with Algeria and expand cooperation across all sectors, according to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
During a joint press statement on the sidelines of his official visit to Algeria, President Mohamud stated that his discussions with President Tebboune were characterized by “a spirit of brotherhood, mutual understanding, and a shared commitment to strengthening the historical ties between our peoples.” He added, “We exchanged views on the strength of relations between Somalia and Algeria, and reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to building a partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit.”
President Mohamud explained that key areas of cooperation were reviewed, including trade, investment, education, defense, security, agriculture, and human capacity development. “We agreed to work together to enhance regional stability, promote economic integration, and contribute to the broader goals of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Somalia’s Vision 2060,” he stated.
Regarding the signed agreements, the Somali President noted that they cover a range of sectors and establish a new phase of advanced cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that these agreements reflect a shared desire to transform their historical friendship into practical and organized cooperation that benefits both peoples and contributes to the development of the region and the African continent.
President Mohamud also announced the establishment of a joint ministerial committee to follow up on the implementation of the agreements and explore new avenues for cooperation between the two nations.
On international matters, the Somali President affirmed a shared commitment to the principle of multilateralism as a cornerstone for addressing regional and international issues. He noted that Somalia highly values Algeria’s steadfast role in promoting peace, justice, and African solidarity, and appreciates its continued support for peacebuilding and stability efforts in Somalia. He added, “We reaffirmed our unwavering and principled support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for independence and the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital within the 1967 borders.”
Furthermore, discussions included several issues in the Arab region, including the situations in Libya, Sudan, and Western Sahara.
