New Pedagogical Assessment Plan Unveiled for Algerian Schools

Algiers – The Ministry of National Education has issued directives to educational directorates across Algeria outlining the new pedagogical assessment framework for all three levels of education for the upcoming academic year 2025/2026. This framework is built upon several key circulars focused on pedagogical assessment and curriculum restructuring.

The Ministry emphasizes that pedagogical assessment is a crucial component of the educational system. It provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of teaching methods, curriculum implementation, and student learning outcomes. The assessment framework aims to identify areas of strength and weakness in both students and teaching practices, ultimately informing future educational strategies and improvements.

For primary education, the focus remains on continuous assessment, allowing educators to closely monitor student progress and tailor instruction accordingly. This continuous evaluation will encompass languages, mathematics, and arts and physical education activities.

In language learning, the assessment in the first stage will include expression, oral communication, reading, memorization, writing and dictation. In the second and third stages, it will rely on oral expression, reading, memorization, and written production. Mathematics assessment will cover numbers, calculation, measurement, data organization, space, and geometry. Arts and physical education will evaluate various musical, artistic, physical, and sports activities.

Student grades will be determined by classroom participation, engagement, adherence to instructions, and the quality of completed assignments and projects. The goal is to provide a holistic view of student learning and development throughout the academic year.

The Ministry believes that this comprehensive assessment plan will contribute to a more effective and responsive educational system, ultimately benefiting Algerian students and educators alike.
