$2 Million Increase in Prize Money for Champions League and CAF Cup Winners

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Monday an increase in prize money for the winners of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup starting from the 2025-2026 season, representing a $2 million increase.

According to a CAF statement, the winner of the CAF Champions League will receive $6 million, a 50% increase over the previous prize. Meanwhile, the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup will receive $4 million, doubling the previous amount.

Two Algerian clubs, CR Belouizdad and USM Alger, remain in contention in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup. CR Belouizdad is set to face Egypt’s Al Masry, while USM Alger will play against AS Maniema Union of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The first-leg matches are scheduled for March 14 and 15, with the return legs taking place on March 21 and 22, 2026.

CAF also decided to raise solidarity grants for clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds of African club competitions. These grants will increase from $50,000 per club during the 2024-2025 season to $100,000 for the 2025-2026 edition.

With these new measures, the total prize money and solidarity grants distributed to African clubs will exceed $42 million annually, up from $18.8 million in 2021.

CAF confirmed that these reforms have contributed to a record participation of 130 clubs in African club competitions during the 2025-2026 season.
