Algiers – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, concluded his three-day official visit to Algeria on Thursday. He was leading a high-level delegation.
The visit, which commenced earlier this week, focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Algeria and Somalia. Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including economic development, security, and cultural exchange.
During his stay, President Mohamud held meetings with senior Algerian officials, including the President of Algeria and other key government ministers. These discussions provided an opportunity to explore avenues for increased collaboration and mutual support between the two nations.
DZWatch understands that key agreements were reached in principle regarding potential Algerian investment in Somalia’s infrastructure and agricultural sectors. These agreements are expected to be formalized in the coming months, marking a significant step forward in economic ties.
Security cooperation was also a prominent topic of discussion. Both nations face similar challenges related to regional stability and combating extremism. The leaders affirmed their commitment to working together to address these threats and promote peace and security in the region.
The visit underscores Algeria’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts to achieve stability and progress. It also highlights the growing importance of South-South cooperation in addressing shared challenges and fostering sustainable development.
President Mohamud’s departure marks the end of a successful visit that is expected to pave the way for a stronger and more prosperous partnership between Algeria and Somalia.
