Algiers – The head of the National Construction Movement (Mouvement de la Construction Nationale), Abdelkader Bengrina, has voiced serious concerns regarding the escalating situation in Mali. He characterized the ongoing political and security deterioration in the neighboring nation as deeply troubling.
Bengrina stated that the ruling military junta in Bamako, which has adopted a hostile stance towards Algeria, is facing increasing isolation and declining influence both domestically and regionally. He emphasized that this necessitates responsible preparation from various Malian national forces for a post-coup period.
“The current trajectory in Mali demands careful consideration and proactive planning,” Bengrina noted. “It is imperative that Malian stakeholders anticipate potential power vacuums and develop strategies to ensure a stable and orderly transition.”
The leader of the National Construction Movement called on the Malian people to unite and rally around a unifying national figure capable of leading a transitional phase that preserves stability and prevents a descent into chaos or lawlessness. He stressed the need for thorough preparation to fill any potential power vacuum, preventing a repeat of past experiences where the Malian people’s achievements were undermined.
“Mali’s future hinges on the ability of its people to forge a cohesive national vision and work together towards a peaceful and prosperous future,” Bengrina concluded. He underscored the importance of dialogue and reconciliation among all segments of Malian society to address the challenges facing the country.
The National Construction Movement’s statement reflects growing concerns in Algeria regarding the stability and future direction of Mali, particularly in light of recent tensions between the two countries.
