Chlef, Algeria – October 16, 2025 – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib is expected to hand over import licenses for 10,000 passenger buses to various private and public operators today. The move aims to modernize the country’s public transportation fleet and improve service for commuters.
The licensing ceremony will take place on the sidelines of the Prime Minister’s visit to the Chlef province. During the visit, the Prime Minister will inspect the Daewoo bus manufacturing plant, a key player in the country’s automotive sector. He will also oversee the reopening of the ‘Captain’ industrial and commercial complex, a tuna production facility. Agrodeev Holding Company acquired the complex after it was seized as part of anti-corruption efforts. The Prime Minister will also review the expansion of a local glass production plant.
The decision to import the buses follows a directive from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, issued during a cabinet meeting in August. The President ordered the immediate import of 10,000 new passenger buses to replace aging vehicles currently in service. The Ministry of Industry is overseeing the implementation of this initiative.
This significant investment in public transportation is expected to alleviate pressure on existing infrastructure and provide a more comfortable and reliable travel experience for citizens across the country. The influx of new buses is also anticipated to create new jobs in maintenance and operation, further boosting the local economy.
The government’s commitment to upgrading the nation’s transportation network reflects its broader efforts to improve the quality of life for all Algerians. This latest initiative underscores the importance of modernizing vital sectors through strategic investments and partnerships.
