Algeria Completes Installation of 1,000 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Algiers, November 15, 2025 – Algeria has reached a significant milestone in its transition towards sustainable transportation with the completion of 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, during the inaugural meeting of sector officials held this Saturday. Minister Adjjal emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public services and ensuring the reliable supply of electricity and gas to Algerian citizens.

In his address, Adjjal highlighted several key achievements in the energy sector. He noted that over 2.4 million homes have been connected to the gas network, and more than 456,000 homes have been connected to the electricity grid. The national electricity coverage now stands at 99%, serving over 12.5 million subscribers, while gas coverage has reached 72%, benefiting over 8.2 million subscribers.

“Sonelgaz has successfully met the national energy demand during the peak of 2025, reaching 20,628 megawatts, an increase compared to last year,” Adjjal stated.

Addressing the agricultural sector, the Minister revealed that over 100,432 agricultural investments have been connected to the gas network, in line with the President’s directives to bolster food security.

The completion of the 1,000 EV charging stations marks a crucial step in promoting electric mobility across the country. The necessary regulatory and legal frameworks for EV infrastructure are also being established.

Furthermore, Adjjal announced the early completion of electricity connections to five seawater desalination plants, with plans underway to connect three additional plants.

The Minister emphasized that the sector meeting is an opportunity to develop a forward-looking vision and a clear roadmap that aligns with the state’s strategic goals of energy security and sustainable economic development. He stressed that the restructured energy sector will focus on developing energy resources and achieving a balanced energy mix that includes traditional energy sources, renewable energy, hydrogen, and electric mobility.
