Hamas Calls for Probe into ‘Synchronized’ Wildfires

Algiers, November 14, 2025 – The Movement of Society for Peace (Hamas) has issued a call for a thorough investigation into the recent outbreak of what they describe as ‘synchronized’ wildfires across several Algerian provinces. The party is questioning the timing and nature of the blazes, which occurred outside of the typical high-temperature season.

In a statement released Friday, Hamas expressed its “deep concern and attention” regarding the wave of fires that impacted forests, scrubland, and thickets in numerous regions of the country on November 13th and 14th. The movement conveyed its “full solidarity with the residents of the affected areas.”

Hamas, led by Hassani Cherif, urged citizens to exercise increased vigilance and solidarity in order to overcome the consequences and damage caused by the fires. The party emphasized the need to strengthen preventative measures and bolster aerial and logistical capabilities for combating fires, aligning them with the climatic challenges facing the nation.

Furthermore, Hamas advocated for the launch of a permanent national program dedicated to rehabilitating damaged forests. They also called for the establishment of proactive mechanisms to predict and control fire hazards, address their effects, and compensate for losses.

The political organization acknowledged and “greatly appreciated” the strenuous efforts of the Civil Protection services, forestry personnel, and various security forces involved in the ongoing fire suppression operations across numerous locations, particularly in the provinces of Tipaza and Medea. Hamas noted the difficult terrain and complex climatic conditions faced by responders. The party commended the rapid intervention, which led to the complete extinguishing of several fires and helped to limit the spread of flames, reducing potential damage to vegetation, property, and lives.
