763 New Academic Hospital Assistant Positions Created

Algiers, Algeria – A significant restructuring of university hospital staffing is underway following a recent announcement from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Decree No. 165, amending Decree No. 1033 of September 22, 2025, details the creation of 763 new positions for academic hospital assistants across the country.

This move aims to recalibrate the distribution of specialties and available positions within university hospitals throughout Algeria. The changes reflect an ongoing effort to optimize medical education and healthcare delivery.

Specifically, the decree outlines the creation of new positions in various medical specialties. For example, the Faculty of Medicine annex in El Oued will see the addition of positions in immunology, galenic pharmacy, and microbiology. A position in clinical physiology, metabolic functional exploration, and nutrition will be established at the Tebessa Faculty of Medicine annex.

However, the restructuring also involves the elimination of certain existing positions. This includes positions in immunology, normal anatomy, clinical physiology, cardiology, and pharmaceutical pharmacy. These removals are part of a broader effort to streamline and realign resources with current needs.

The University Hospital Center of Tlemcen will benefit from the addition of four new positions in anesthesia and resuscitation, hematology, neurology, and pharmaceutical biophysics. Conversely, positions in toxicology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, sports medicine, biochemistry, and pharmaceutical biophysics will be removed.

Oran’s hospital system is also undergoing changes, with new positions being created in blood biology and hematology. A pediatric position will be added at the Kanastel specialized hospital. The Qouba and Ain Tayah public hospitals will each gain a position in internal medicine, and a pediatric position is slated for the establishment in Ain Tayah as well.

These adjustments represent a comprehensive effort to strengthen medical expertise and optimize resource allocation within Algeria’s university hospital system. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research emphasizes that these changes are crucial for ensuring the continued quality of medical education and healthcare services across the nation.
