Vienna – Iran has issued a strong warning against any potential action targeting its nuclear program at the upcoming meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors. Reza Najafi, Iran’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, described a potential resolution against Iran as an “illegal move” by the United States and the E3 (France, Germany, and the United Kingdom).
According to Najafi, such a resolution would be an attempt to impose what he called “illogical and arrogant” views on the Iranian people by exploiting international mechanisms. He asserted that these nations are attempting to achieve in Vienna what they have failed to accomplish in New York, referring to previous diplomatic efforts at the United Nations.
“The United States and these countries are continuing to exploit international mechanisms to impose their illogical and arrogant views on the Iranian people,” Najafi stated, emphasizing that leveraging a numerical advantage within the Board of Governors to enforce outcomes unattainable elsewhere is unacceptable.
Najafi further argued that compelling the IAEA Director General to submit reports based on outdated Security Council resolutions is not only unlawful and unjustified but also complicates the existing situation and undermines diplomatic efforts. He insisted that this action would not alter the current state of safeguards implementation in Iran.
The Iranian official attributed the current situation to what he described as a “criminal assault” by the United States and Israel against Iran, coupled with the “collusion and appeasement policies” of the European nations. He called upon all member states of the Board of Governors to reject the “destructive unilateral policies” pursued by the United States and the E3 regarding the Iranian nuclear file.
“This new step will not change anything in the current situation of safeguards implementation in Iran,” Najafi affirmed, reiterating Iran’s right to respond appropriately to any unlawful or unjustified actions taken by these nations.
