Algeria and UK Sign Security Agreement on Electronic Fingerprint Analysis

In a move to bolster security cooperation, Algeria and the United Kingdom have signed a memorandum of understanding focused on electronic fingerprint analysis. The agreement was formalized during a working visit to the UK by the Director-General of the Algerian National Security, Ali Badoui.

Badoui, leading a high-level delegation from the General Directorate of National Security, and the UK Minister of State for Borders and Immigration, Alex Norris, signed the agreement. The signing ceremony, attended by the Algerian Ambassador to London, Noureddine Yazid, underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen their partnership in policing.

The memorandum aims to enhance operational collaboration and develop the capabilities of Algerian police officers and technicians in advanced electronic fingerprint analysis. A key component of the agreement involves the exchange of expertise and knowledge related to identification and verification technologies. This exchange is intended to equip both countries to better address current security challenges and technological advancements in the field.

During the visit, Badoui and his delegation toured the National Crime Agency (NCA) in London. The visit provided an opportunity to learn about the UK’s experience in combating crime and its digital systems used for analyzing criminal data and exchanging information.

Badoui also presented an overview of the operational approach adopted by the Algerian police in confronting various forms of crime, with a particular focus on transnational organized crime. This agreement represents a significant step forward in Algeria-UK security cooperation, paving the way for enhanced capabilities in combating crime and ensuring citizen safety.
