Algeria and Oman Explore Expanded Cooperation in Mining Sector

Algiers, November 16, 2025 – Algeria and Oman are exploring avenues to deepen their collaboration, particularly within the mining sector, building upon their existing strong ties in hydrocarbons. This development follows a meeting held today between the Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria, Saif Rashid Al-Badaei.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, discussions centered on reviewing the current state of bilateral cooperation and identifying opportunities for further enhancement. The meeting highlighted the growing interest among Omani companies in investing in the Algerian market. Companies such as Abraj Energy Services, the Suhail Bahwan Group Holding, and the Mohammed Al Barwani Holding Group, through its PetroGas subsidiary, were specifically mentioned, alongside other Omani entities active in both the hydrocarbons and mining industries.

The two parties assessed the progress of two agreements between the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) and PetroGas. These agreements focus on evaluating the energy potential of two fields located in the Touggourt and Berkine basins.

Furthermore, discussions encompassed potential cooperation and partnerships within the hydrocarbons sector, with a particular focus on exploration, field development, well services, and the oil and gas industries. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the possibility of expanding cooperation into the mining sector. This includes the exploitation and processing of phosphates, as well as the production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers. These areas are considered crucial to Algeria’s efforts to strengthen its processing industries.

Minister Arkab emphasized that Algeria, guided by the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is committed to strengthening economic cooperation with Oman and deepening existing partnerships in the fields of hydrocarbons, mining, and processing industries. The goal is to serve the mutual interests of both nations.
