Algeria and Oman are exploring avenues to broaden their partnership in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors. Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria, Saif Rashed Al-Badai, at the ministry headquarters on Sunday. Senior ministry officials were also present at the meeting.
This meeting underscores the ongoing strong relationship between Algeria and Oman, particularly in the crucial sectors of hydrocarbons and mining. Discussions focused on the current state of bilateral cooperation and prospects for further enhancement. There is growing interest from Omani companies in investing in the Algerian market. Companies such as Abraj Energy Services, Suhail Bahwan Holding Group, and Mohammed Al Barwani Holding Group, through its PetroGas subsidiary, are among those considering investments, in addition to other institutions active in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors.
Both sides reviewed the progress of two study agreements signed between the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) and PetroGas. These agreements concern the evaluation of energy potential in two fields located in the Touggourt and Berkine basins. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the NAPEC energy and hydrogen exhibition and conference in Oran.
The discussions also covered cooperation and partnership opportunities in the hydrocarbons sector, specifically in exploration, field development, well services, and oil and gas industries. Furthermore, the meeting explored the potential for expanding cooperation into the mining sector. Particular attention was given to the exploitation and processing of phosphate, as well as the production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers. These areas are central to Algeria’s efforts to strengthen its processing industries.
The Minister emphasized that Algeria, in line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is committed to strengthening economic cooperation with Oman. This includes developing existing partnerships in the fields of hydrocarbons, mining, and processing industries, all to serve the mutual interests of the two nations. The focus remains on creating mutually beneficial opportunities for both Algeria and Oman.
This partnership aims to bolster both economies and foster greater collaboration in key industrial sectors.
