Algeria is exploring strengthened collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) in the crucial sectors of transport and infrastructure. Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud, met with the President of the AfDB Group, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, to discuss potential partnerships focusing on rail and port infrastructure development.

The meeting, held at the Ministry headquarters, centered on bolstering the existing partnership with the AfDB, a leading financial institution dedicated to supporting economic and social development projects across the African continent. Discussions encompassed key areas of cooperation, particularly supporting Algeria’s national efforts to advance vital sectors like transport, rail networks, and port facilities. The two parties explored avenues for joint initiatives between Algeria and the AfDB.

Minister Sayoud highlighted Algeria’s ambitious national development projects, spearheaded by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. These include the construction of desalination plants along the coastline to ensure water security and the completion of 950 kilometers of railway lines extending deep into the Sahara Desert, utilizing Algerian expertise. He also emphasized the focus on mineral exploitation and strengthening food security through national investments.

The Minister stressed that collaboration with the AfDB would significantly support these national initiatives and reinforce Algeria’s commitment to African integration. He believes the AfDB’s expertise and resources can play a vital role in accelerating the pace of development across various sectors.

Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, President of the AfDB, commended Algeria’s dynamic approach to national development, praising the scale of investments and the rapid pace of progress. He emphasized the importance of sharing Algeria’s experiences with other African nations, given the common development challenges faced across the continent. The AfDB sees Algeria as a key partner in promoting sustainable and inclusive growth throughout Africa.

This renewed focus on collaboration signals a strong commitment from both Algeria and the African Development Bank to drive infrastructure development and economic progress, not only within Algeria but also across the wider African landscape.
