Naftal Secures Deal to Import Tires from Germany

Algiers, November 17, 2025 – Naftal, the national company for marketing and distribution of petroleum products, has signed a significant agreement with Continental, a leading German tire manufacturer. The deal aims to bolster the Algerian market with high-quality tires.

According to a company statement released earlier today, the agreement stipulates the supply of 1.5 million tires for both light and heavy vehicles to the national market as an initial phase. This move is in direct response to a government decision issued on August 28, 2025, tasking Naftal with securing the national supply of rubber tires.

The primary objective of this agreement is to ensure the availability of high-quality tires at competitive prices, thereby stabilizing the market and protecting it from speculation. It also underscores Naftal’s commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to it by the state, with a focus on preserving the purchasing power of Algerian consumers.

The signing ceremony was overseen by Naftal’s CEO, Djamal Cherdoud, with participation from Hoyos Ferdinand, Continental’s Executive Director for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, via video conference. Also in attendance were Continental’s North Africa Director, Bulent Erdogan, the Secretary-General of the National Union of Naftal, Abdelhak Omrani, and other senior company executives.

In his opening remarks, CEO Djamal Cherdoud emphasized that “this contract represents a new phase in reorganizing the rubber tire market in Algeria, a market directly linked to the safety of citizens and the quality of transportation services.” He further stated, “We are committed to providing high-quality tires at competitive prices and working to enhance the stability of the national market, in line with the directives of the country’s public authorities.”

Cherdoud also highlighted Naftal’s dedication to protecting consumers from speculation and ensuring their purchasing power. He affirmed that the company will always be worthy of the trust placed in it by the public authorities, leveraging Continental’s global expertise to deliver high-quality products that meet the needs of the market. Hoyos Ferdinand of Continental expressed his pride and satisfaction in collaborating with Naftal, emphasizing that the partnership combines Continental’s global tire production expertise with Naftal’s successful distribution and marketing capabilities within Algeria, creating a synergistic alliance between two major groups. This partnership is expected to have a long-term positive impact on the Algerian automotive market.
