Algeria, African Development Bank Discuss Enhanced Partnership

Algeria is seeking to strengthen its partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to further drive economic and social development initiatives across the nation. Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and National Planning, Said Saayoud, met with AfDB President, Sidi Ould Tah, on Monday to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration.

During the meeting, Minister Saayoud and President Ould Tah discussed key areas of cooperation, focusing on supporting Algeria’s national efforts to develop vital sectors, particularly transportation and railway infrastructure. The discussions also covered potential joint projects between Algeria and the AfDB.

Minister Saayoud highlighted significant national projects underway, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, including the construction of desalination plants along the coast to ensure water security and the completion of 950 km of railway lines in the Sahara Desert, utilizing national expertise. He also emphasized the priority given to mining development and substantial state investments aimed at achieving food security.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Minister Saayoud believes that cooperation with the AfDB will provide substantial support to these initiatives and contribute to the broader goal of strengthening African integration. He stated that the partnership aligns with Algeria’s vision for regional economic growth and stability.

President Ould Tah commended Algeria’s dynamic development and significant investments, praising the promising pace of progress. He stressed the importance of sharing Algeria’s experiences with other African nations, given the shared challenges and opportunities across the continent. He affirmed the AfDB’s commitment to supporting Algeria’s development agenda and fostering greater regional collaboration.
