The Sudanese army and its allied forces have reportedly withdrawn from the town of Um Seyala in North Kordofan, just hours after claiming its recapture from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This development comes amid intense fighting in several areas across the region.
A source within the Sudan Shield Forces, which supports the army, stated that the withdrawal from Um Seyala was a “tactical maneuver.” The source also indicated that the commander of the Sudan Shield Forces sustained minor injuries during the battles in the Um Seyala locality.
In a statement released via Telegram, the RSF announced that it had seized control of Um Seyala in North Kordofan following a “decisive battle.” The RSF claimed to have inflicted significant casualties and equipment losses on the army and its supporting forces.
Earlier in the day, the Sudanese army had asserted its recapture of the town after clashes with the RSF. Sources indicate that the strategic importance of this locality may surpass that of other recently reclaimed areas, as it lies on key supply lines for the RSF in North Kordofan.
Following its recent control of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, the RSF has reportedly amassed considerable forces in an attempt to seize major cities in the Kordofan region.
Fighting continues in the region. A military source within the Sudanese army stated that fierce battles with the RSF are ongoing in several cities within North Kordofan State. The source added that an announcement of the capture of Bara, a prominent city in North Kordofan, is imminent. Military leaders have released footage purportedly showing the seizure of vehicles and military equipment following clashes with the RSF in Babanusa, a major city in West Kordofan State.
The Sudanese army previously stated that it had repelled an attack by the RSF on the 22nd Division headquarters in Babanusa. The RSF, on the other hand, claims to have tightened its siege on the 22nd Division and is nearing the “liberation” of the city. Babanusa holds significant strategic importance as one of the last remaining positions held by the army in the area.
