Baku, Azerbaijan – Algeria is actively shaping the global digital development landscape, as Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, participated in the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), commenced on Monday.
The initial discussions centered on defining strategic priorities for the period spanning 2026-2029. Key areas of focus included strengthening telecommunications infrastructure, promoting digital inclusion, developing essential digital skills, and fostering partnerships to support technological advancement.
The conference is expected to culminate in the adoption of the “Baku Declaration on Global Digital Development,” a document that will outline the major directions for international cooperation in the digital realm.
On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Zerrouki held bilateral meetings with delegations from Korea and China. These discussions explored avenues for enhanced cooperation in telecommunications infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on developing fiber optic networks, satellite communication systems, and advanced telecommunications solutions. The meetings also addressed the importance of supporting joint coordination within multilateral international forums.
During the afternoon session, the Minister participated in high-level dialogue sessions. These sessions provided a platform for ministers and international figures to present their national visions and strategies for digital development, reflecting the global momentum towards accelerating digital transformation.
Minister Zerrouki is scheduled to deliver Algeria’s address during tomorrow’s sessions. This address will further articulate Algeria’s commitment to and vision for a digitally inclusive future.
