Algiers, November 18, 2025 – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib chaired a government meeting today to address several key initiatives, focusing on enhancing public spaces, improving education, and promoting a circular economy.
The meeting commenced with a review of a draft presidential decree outlining the conditions and procedures for creating and maintaining artistic works in public spaces. This initiative aims to establish a regulatory framework for monuments, statues, and memorials that reflect the historical, cultural, and social significance of the Algerian nation. The decree will define the standards, technical specifications, and artistic criteria for these public artworks.
In line with the President’s directives to improve conditions in primary schools, the government examined an emergency action plan to enhance the quality of education. The plan prioritizes improvements in catering, maintenance, heating, transportation, and staffing, particularly for students in remote and rural areas.
The government also discussed mechanisms for technology transfer and the development of a national innovation-based economic model, emphasizing the crucial role of universities. A roadmap for this initiative includes establishing a national network of university and research center laboratories and technological platforms. The goal is to optimize technical and human capabilities, build sustainable technological sovereignty, and stimulate industrial and economic growth.
Finally, the government reviewed the national code for waste recycling and valorization sectors. The discussion highlighted the nation’s strategy for transitioning to a circular economy, with waste valorization as a key element for sustainable development. This strategy aims to preserve natural resources, reduce reliance on imported raw materials, and create local green jobs. The strategy focuses on deploying structured recycling and valorization sectors nationwide and implementing extended producer responsibility to fully involve manufacturers in waste management.
