Algiers, DZWatch – The National Democratic Rally (RNDP) has expressed strong disapproval of what it describes as a “systematic” campaign aimed at casting doubt on Algeria’s leading role in defending the Palestinian cause and its unwavering commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
In a statement released today, the RNDP emphasized that Algeria’s recent vote in favor of the UN resolution concerning the situation in Gaza is consistent with its steadfast support for Palestine. The party views this action as a reflection of Algeria’s historical dedication to its Arab, Islamic, and African affiliations, as well as its adherence to the core values and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
“Algeria has always been, and remains, at the forefront of defending just causes, most notably the Palestinian cause,” the statement asserted. “It has never hesitated to support the Palestinian people or waver in its moral and historical obligations towards them. No party can question Algeria’s commitment to this principle, for which Algerians have paid political, diplomatic, and economic prices on numerous occasions.”
The RNDP highlighted Algeria’s consistent efforts, through its permanent mission in New York, to protect Palestinians in Gaza, both before and during its non-permanent membership in the Security Council. Algeria has been central to consultations and initiatives aimed at halting aggression and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid, the party stated.
The RNDP further argued that no other nation has maintained such a high and consistent level of unconditional support for the Palestinian cause as Algeria, even when it meant sacrificing its own vital interests. The party, led by Secretary-General, Monther Boudhen, affirmed that Algeria voted in favor of the recent UN resolution with firm conviction, remaining true to its principles regarding the Palestinian cause. It emphasized the intense diplomatic negotiations conducted responsibly and firmly behind the scenes at the UN Security Council, which resulted in significant amendments to the proposed resolution, addressing key priorities such as securing a ceasefire, preventing renewed aggression, ensuring international protection for the Palestinian people through a UN peacekeeping force, guaranteeing unhindered humanitarian access, and paving the way for a lasting solution.
