Marib, Yemen – Qatar Charity is progressing with the construction of the “Good is Coming” city project, designed to provide sustainable housing for displaced Yemenis in the Marib Governorate. The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Human Development Program, aims to transition families from tent encampments to secure and dignified living units.
According to project officials, approximately 40% of the project has been completed, with full completion expected by the end of the year. The city will consist of 250 residential units, designed to withstand the region’s harsh climate. These prefabricated structures, constructed from durable materials like iron, zinc, and concrete blocks, will each comprise two rooms, a living area, a kitchen, and a bathroom, covering a total area of 48 square meters. The design prioritizes safety and hygiene, particularly for female-headed households and individuals with special needs, ensuring secure heating and cooling systems adaptable to Marib’s challenging climate.
Beyond housing, the “Good is Coming” city incorporates essential infrastructure, including a school, mosque, health unit, vocational training center, sports field, and administrative offices. Comprehensive water and sanitation networks, a solar power system, and dedicated children’s play areas are also planned, along with the planting of 700 trees to promote environmental sustainability.
Dr. Khaled Nasser Al-Shajni, Assistant Director-General of the Executive Unit for Displaced Persons in Marib, praised the project as a “qualitative leap” forward in providing aid to displaced populations. In addition to providing shelter and basic services, the project emphasizes self-reliance through education, training, and skills development, preparing beneficiaries for future employment opportunities. This investment in the future aims to empower families who have lost everything, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.
