QUNEITRA, Syria – Israeli forces conducted an incursion into the Syrian town of Breiqa in the Quneitra region on Wednesday, following artillery shelling earlier in the day, according to Syrian news reports. The reported incursion marks a continuation of Israeli military activity within Syrian territory.
The Syrian news agency reported that Israeli forces entered Breiqa, located in the Quneitra countryside, after shelling the eastern Tel Ahmar forest in the southern Quneitra region with four artillery shells. Initial reports indicate no casualties or material damage. The agency also stated that Israeli forces advanced into the Yarmouk Basin area in the Daraa countryside.
This incident follows a reported incursion by the Israeli military into the Quneitra and Daraa governorates on Tuesday, preceded by three separate incursions into the Quneitra countryside on Monday.
Damascus has consistently condemned what it describes as repeated Israeli violations of its sovereignty. Syrian officials maintain their commitment to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between the two countries. However, Israel unilaterally declared the agreement null and void following the fall of the previous Syrian regime in late 2024.
There has been a noted increase in Israeli military activity in the Quneitra region. Syrian civilians have voiced concerns over the incursions, citing damage to agricultural lands, which serve as their primary source of income. Reports also include allegations of the destruction of forested areas, the detention of individuals, and the establishment of military checkpoints.
Despite the absence of perceived threats from the Syrian government, the Israeli military has repeatedly entered Syrian territory, conducting airstrikes that have resulted in civilian casualties and the destruction of military sites, equipment, weapons, and ammunition.
