Qatar has participated in the 41st Plenary Meeting of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), held in Manama, Bahrain. The meeting brought together representatives from member states, regional, and international organizations concerned with combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and the proliferation of weapons.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Mubarak Al Thani, Head of the Financial Information Unit and member of the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, led the Qatari delegation. Several other officials were also part of the delegation.

The meeting saw high-level participation from members and observers of the group, representing countries and regional and international organizations specializing in combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and weapons proliferation. It served as an opportunity to strengthen and unify regional and international efforts to protect the region’s economic systems from the risks of these crimes and mitigate their impact on other areas.

A specialized workshop titled “Exchange of Experiences on the Current Mutual Evaluation Round and the Mechanism for Implementing the Latest Financial Action Task Force Standards” was held on the sidelines of the 41st meeting. Malaysia and Latvia participated, presenting their practical experiences in the preparation and implementation phases of mutual evaluation rounds, in addition to the most important lessons learned in applying the updated FATF standards. This workshop contributed to enhancing knowledge exchange between member states and supporting their efforts to improve the effectiveness of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing systems.

In a related context, MENAFATF honored Qatar in recognition of its efforts and contributions to supporting the group’s work over the past two years. This recognition reflects Qatar’s active role in promoting regional cooperation and developing capabilities in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing. Qatar’s commitment to these efforts remains strong.
