The Algerian Army, in coordination with various security services, has successfully disrupted a significant drug trafficking operation along the border with Morocco. Joint detachments operating across multiple military districts apprehended 27 drug traffickers and seized a substantial quantity of processed cannabis.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of National Defence, authorities confiscated 145 kilograms of processed cannabis (Kif) intended for entry into Algeria. In addition to the cannabis seizure, security forces also seized 1.4 kilograms of cocaine and over 967,000 psychotropic tablets.
In a separate incident, an individual identified as TIBARI Hafidh, also known as “Kaaoussaoui,” surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, located within the Sixth Military Region. The surrendering individual handed over a Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, ammunition, and other personal effects.
Furthermore, Algerian Army detachments apprehended eight individuals suspected of providing support to terrorist groups in various operations throughout the country. Raids conducted in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet resulted in the arrest of 186 individuals. Authorities also seized 27 vehicles, 296 generators, and 164 jackhammers, along with quantities of raw gold and stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.
In other operations, 14 individuals were apprehended, and authorities confiscated one FMPK machine gun, three Kalashnikov submachine guns, six hunting rifles, and over 27,000 liters of fuel. Additionally, 10 tons of food products intended for smuggling and speculation were seized.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard successfully thwarted attempts at illegal migration along the Algerian coast, rescuing 152 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Across the country, 491 illegal migrants of various nationalities were apprehended.
