Call to Intensify Efforts to Improve Workers’ Social Conditions

Setif, Algeria – A renewed call has been made to intensify efforts and initiatives aimed at improving the social conditions of workers across Algeria. The appeal, emphasizing the crucial link between social well-being and professional stability, was highlighted on Wednesday in Setif.

Amar Tagjout, Secretary-General of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), underscored the importance of prioritizing worker’s social needs as a fundamental means of bolstering professional stability and enhancing productivity across various sectors. He stressed that a motivated and secure workforce is essential for sustained economic growth and national development.

“Improving the social circumstances of our workers is not merely a matter of social justice; it is a strategic imperative,” Tagjout stated. “When workers feel valued and supported, they are more likely to be engaged, productive, and committed to their jobs.”

The Secretary-General’s comments come at a time when Algeria is focused on diversifying its economy and increasing its competitiveness on the global stage. A key component of this strategy involves creating a more attractive and supportive environment for workers, ensuring they have access to adequate housing, healthcare, and education opportunities for their families.

The UGTA has pledged to work closely with the government and employers to implement policies and programs that will improve the quality of life for workers and their families. This includes advocating for fair wages, safe working conditions, and access to social services.

The focus on improving workers’ social conditions reflects a growing recognition that human capital is a critical asset for Algeria’s future. By investing in the well-being of its workforce, the country aims to unlock its full potential and achieve sustainable economic prosperity.
