Geneva, Switzerland – October 21, 2025 – Algeria has reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting development initiatives across the African continent through major strategic projects. This commitment, guided by the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was reaffirmed by the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Rezig, during an African ministerial meeting held in Geneva.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 16th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Minister Rezig emphasized Algeria’s dedication to fostering African development through key infrastructure projects. He highlighted the Trans-Saharan Road and the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline as prime examples of Algeria’s ongoing contributions. Furthermore, he noted the significant project aimed at connecting the African continent with a high-speed internet network.
Minister Rezig also underscored Algeria’s efforts to bolster intra-African trade. He cited the successful hosting of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair held last September. He further mentioned the launch of a $1 billion fund dedicated to supporting startups and young innovators, focusing on projects in crucial sectors such as infrastructure, education, health, and energy.
“Algeria firmly believes in the importance of effective solidarity among African nations,” Rezig stated. He stressed the need for the exchange of expertise and the promotion of joint investments in infrastructure and value chain development. He also highlighted the pivotal role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a strategic tool for promoting continental integration by removing trade barriers and facilitating the movement of goods, services, and capital.
In addition, Minister Rezig reiterated Algeria’s call for a fundamental and equitable resolution to the debt crisis facing Africa. He expressed strong support for the establishment of the African Credit Rating Agency as a mechanism for promoting financial and developmental fairness across the continent.
