In a move to bolster Algeria’s healthcare system, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has directed the establishment of specialized hospitals focusing on complex medical fields. The announcement was made during a visit to Constantine on Thursday, where the President oversaw the laying of the foundation stone for a new 500-bed university hospital center.
President Tebboune emphasized the necessity of creating healthcare hubs that provide sophisticated medical services, including neurology, neurosurgery, and cardiology. He asserted that these facilities are crucial for strengthening the Algerian healthcare infrastructure.
“Algeria possesses significant capabilities and credibility, which has led many developed countries in the medical field to express their desire to collaborate with us,” President Tebboune stated.
The President also stressed the importance of promptly addressing critical cases requiring immediate medical intervention. He highlighted existing partnerships with countries like Germany in the medical sector, noting that Algeria will receive the necessary assistance to advance specialized medical fields.
“Building large hospitals is commonplace, but training doctors in these specialized fields, graduating from our universities, is what we need and what we want to achieve,” President Tebboune explained.
He further pointed out the need for approximately 13,000 specialized doctors, contrasting this with the current annual graduation rate of 13,000 general practitioners in Algeria. The President’s directive signals a significant investment in specialized medical training and infrastructure, aiming to improve the quality and accessibility of advanced healthcare services for Algerian citizens.
