Bouamama Emphasizes Importance of Scientific Journalism

Minister of Communication, Zouheir Bouamama, has underscored the critical role of scientific journalism in highlighting the nation’s advancements and investments in research and development. Speaking at a workshop on the current state of scientific journalism in Algeria, held at the Ministry headquarters on Thursday, Bouamama stressed the need for specialized expertise within the media landscape.

“The media scene can no longer tolerate randomness or improvisation; it requires specialized competencies that understand the language of the times,” Bouamama stated. He emphasized the importance of journalistic specialization to keep pace with rapid technological and scientific advancements.

“We desperately need specialized journalism that covers innovation, artificial intelligence, marine sciences, and other specialized fields,” he added, highlighting the growing demand for informed reporting on complex subjects.

The Minister described scientific journalism as “a vital platform for showcasing the scientific endeavors of our elite and demonstrating the scale of investments the state is making in scientific research.” He further emphasized that this form of journalism plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between researchers, innovators, and the public.

Beyond showcasing successes, Bouamama noted that “the role of scientific journalism also extends to highlighting the challenges faced by researchers and innovators.” He affirmed that his ministry places significant importance on training and development, recognizing that “a conscious and effective journalistic performance depends on well-trained journalists skilled in investigative and inquiry-based reporting.”

Minister Bouamama also called for media organizations to bolster their teams with proficient journalists capable of professionally countering hostile campaigns. He stressed the importance of a robust and informed media sector in safeguarding national interests and promoting accurate information.
