Sudan’s ruling general, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has declared his army’s unwavering commitment to completely eliminate the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Speaking during a visit to Al-Gutaina in White Nile State, south of Khartoum, al-Burhan asserted that the military’s sole objective is to eradicate the RSF militia from the country.
“We are determined to completely uproot the rebel militia and cleanse every inch of the homeland,” al-Burhan stated, according to a statement released by the Sovereign Council. His remarks follow a recent declaration of general mobilization within the armed forces.
Al-Burhan has been actively touring various regions to assess the evolving battlefield situation. Recent visits included areas in Omdurman, west of Khartoum, and Al-Sureiha village in Al-Jazirah State. Previously, al-Burhan rejected any ceasefire or peace agreement with the RSF unless they relinquish their weapons, urging all able-bodied Sudanese citizens to join the fight.
The already dire situation is compounded by a growing humanitarian crisis. The Sudanese Doctors Network reports that at least 23 children have died in the past month in the cities of Al-Daling and Kadugli in South Kordofan State. The network attributes these deaths to severe malnutrition and a critical shortage of essential supplies resulting from the ongoing siege of the cities.
The Doctors Network has condemned the continued blockade of South Kordofan, calling it a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and children’s rights to survival and protection. They are urgently appealing to the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to establish safe corridors and provide immediate relief.
Currently, the RSF controls all five states of the Darfur region in western Sudan, except for some northern parts of North Darfur. The army maintains control over most of the remaining 13 states in the south, north, east, and center of the country, including the capital, Khartoum.
