Algeria Participates in G20 Summit Preparatory Meeting in Johannesburg

Johannesburg, South Africa – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib represented President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at a consultative meeting held in Johannesburg today, ahead of the G20 Summit scheduled for November 22nd and 23rd, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office, the gathering brought together heads of state and government from African nations invited to participate in the G20 Summit, as well as representatives from regional organizations across the continent. Discussions centered on the expected outcomes of the summit, particularly concerning issues of paramount importance to African countries.

The South African presidency has placed these African priorities at the heart of the G20 Summit agenda, marking the first time the summit is being held on African soil. The meeting addressed means of strengthening collaborative African efforts, specifically through reinforcing initiatives undertaken by South Africa during its G20 presidency and leveraging the African Union’s membership within the group.

The objective is to amplify the voice of the African continent, advocate for its interests, and address critical issues such as debt management, securing development financing, ensuring equitable exploitation and valorization of natural resources, and reforming the global governance system. This includes addressing the under-representation of Africa within international financial institutions and the United Nations system, where the continent faces marginalization in critical international decision-making processes that significantly impact the future of humanity.

The Algerian delegation reiterated its commitment to working with other African nations to ensure that the G20 Summit delivers tangible benefits for the continent.
