Algiers, DZWatch – Algeria has been selected as one of nine partner countries to participate in the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) global clean hydrogen program. The initiative, backed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF-8), aims to foster the next generation of low-emission energy value chains.
This selection underscores Algeria’s strategic importance and reliability within the energy sector. The program seeks to leverage Algeria’s existing infrastructure and resources to become a key player in the burgeoning clean hydrogen market.
Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, will participate in a high-level session titled “Unlocking the Potential of Clean Hydrogen through Investment and Innovation.” This session will formally launch the global program and focus on financing mechanisms for clean energy projects, industrial innovation strategies, and investment models. The discussions will highlight Algeria’s capabilities in clean hydrogen production, leveraging its gas infrastructure, electricity grids, and renewable energy resources.
Algeria’s participation in the 21st UNIDO General Conference in Riyadh, from November 23-27, 2025, provides a vital platform to strengthen international partnerships. Minister Arkab will lead a high-level delegation comprising representatives from the hydrocarbons, mining, and industrial sectors, along with ambassadors and heads of national institutions. This delegation will present viable projects and engage in direct discussions with international partners on investment opportunities and technology transfer.
The clean hydrogen initiative is a key component of Algeria’s broader strategy to transition towards a sustainable, low-emission economy and diversify national income sources. The summit offers Algeria a chance to showcase its expertise in transformative industries, renewable energy, and mineral resources, opening new avenues for international collaboration in clean hydrogen and related infrastructure projects.
Algeria’s commitment to this global initiative signals a significant step towards a greener energy future and reinforces its position as a key player in the global energy transition.
