Renewed Airstrikes Hit Gaza Amid Calls for US Intervention

Gaza City, DZWatch – A series of airstrikes struck various locations within the Gaza Strip on Saturday, resulting in multiple casualties. The attacks, focused on Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and Nuseirat, have prompted renewed calls for international intervention to solidify a lasting ceasefire.

Medical sources report that at least 22 Palestinians have been killed in the recent wave of attacks. Hospitals across Gaza are struggling to cope with the influx of wounded. Nine bodies were reportedly taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, four to Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat, and nine to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.

According to reports, one airstrike targeted a vehicle near Al-Abbas junction in the Al-Rimal neighborhood, west of Gaza City, resulting in the deaths of at least five civilians and several injuries. Further airstrikes reportedly hit residential buildings in the Nuseirat refugee camp and west of Deir al-Balah, leading to the deaths of five individuals, including two children. The injured were transported to Al-Awda Hospital and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

The escalating violence has further strained the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Since the beginning of the conflict on October 7, 2023, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has climbed to over 69,733, the majority of whom are reportedly women and children. The number of injured has surpassed 170,863.

Even after the announced ceasefire on October 11th, health officials in Gaza have documented the deaths of 318 Palestinians and injuries to 788 others, highlighting the fragility of the truce.

A senior Palestinian Authority official has condemned the ongoing violence, particularly acts perpetrated in the West Bank. He described the actions as terrorist attacks and urged the US administration to intervene decisively to halt what he termed Israeli disregard for the rights of the Palestinian people. He emphasized the need for an end to support for extremist activity and a commitment to enforcing international law.

The official reiterated the importance of implementing existing international resolutions to achieve lasting peace and security for all parties involved. The urgency of the situation demands immediate and concrete action to prevent further loss of life and to create a viable path towards a just and sustainable resolution.
