Algiers – A major operation by the Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking (SCLTIS) has led to the dismantling of a sophisticated criminal organization involved in international drug trafficking. The operation, conducted last week, resulted in the seizure of over 95 kilograms and 669 grams of processed cannabis, originating from Morocco.
Nineteen individuals, including one woman, were apprehended as part of the operation. Investigations revealed an attempt to smuggle the cannabis shipment from Morocco into Algeria. The drugs were discovered in a commercial vehicle traveling between Algiers and Tipaza.
The primary suspect, wanted under multiple arrest warrants, was subsequently arrested. Investigations revealed his direct involvement with Moroccan drug kingpins who supply the narcotics.
Authorities also recovered fifteen vehicles of various makes and models, used by the network to carry out their criminal activities, along with two motorcycles and a hunting rifle. A substantial sum of money, amounting to 1,467,000,000 centimes (approximately 14.67 million Algerian dinars), believed to be proceeds from criminal activities, was also seized.
The suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Cheraga Court. DZWatch will continue to follow this developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
