Hezbollah Official: All Options Open After Beirut Strike

A senior Hezbollah official has stated that “all possibilities are open” following an Israeli strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Mahmoud Qamati, Deputy Head of Hezbollah’s Political Council, confirmed that the strike targeted a commander involved in “Jihadi operations.” He added that the outcome of the operation remains unconfirmed pending an official announcement.

Speaking to DZWatch, Qamati described the attack as a significant escalation and a “new violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.” He emphasized the extensive damage caused in a densely populated area with numerous businesses. Qamati’s comments came hours after Israel claimed to have conducted a “precise” strike targeting a high-ranking Hezbollah commander.

While Israeli sources have linked the operation to Haitham Tabatabai, allegedly the “second-in-command” within Hezbollah, the organization has not confirmed this. Medical sources have reported casualties and injuries resulting from the strike, which shook the Haret Hreik district and was followed by intensive Israeli aerial activity.

Qamati stressed that Hezbollah will not disclose the identity of the target until the outcome of the operation is verified. He indicated that clarity is expected soon, with an official statement to be released. Further details will remain undisclosed until the on-site investigation is complete.

The Hezbollah official connected the attack to a series of escalating actions by Israel in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. He argued that Israel “does not adhere to any agreements” and disregards even American oversight of ceasefire understandings. Qamati asserted that Israel is demonstrating a clear rejection of any negotiation with the Lebanese state, rendering current political initiatives “unviable.”

Qamati stated that the leadership’s assessment of the situation will determine the next course of action. He emphasized that if the assassination attempt was successful, Hezbollah reserves the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing. “The leadership will study the situation and make the appropriate decision,” Qamati concluded.
