Algeria Achieves Major Milestones in Short Time, Says President

CONSTANTINE, Algeria – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has affirmed that Algeria has recently achieved significant milestones within a remarkably short timeframe. The President made these remarks during a meeting with civil society representatives at the conclusion of his visit to Constantine province last Thursday.

President Tebboune announced that several key projects are nearing operational status, including the Gara Djebilet iron ore project and the Bled El Hadba phosphate production initiative. These projects represent a major step forward for Algeria’s industrial capacity and economic diversification.

In a televised address on Sunday evening, President Tebboune stated that despite facing obstacles and misinformation campaigns during the initial years of his presidential term, these attempts failed to derail Algeria’s progress. He emphasized that major accomplishments have been realized across various sectors in a very compressed period.

“Algeria will witness a new and genuine launch in the coming year, leading it to lasting stability,” President Tebboune declared, highlighting the positive trajectory of the national economy. He noted that Algeria has successfully managed its economic situation and maintained positive indicators, even amidst fluctuations in global oil prices, without resorting to external debt.

The President also announced plans to visit Bechar in approximately one month to preside over a historic ceremony marking the arrival of iron ore extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine via the Tindouf-Bechar railway line. This marks the first instance of such transportation since independence.

The newly constructed railway line, spanning nearly one thousand kilometers, was completed in just one and a half years. Furthermore, another railway line is planned to transport phosphate from Bled El Hadba to Annaba, significantly boosting phosphate production from 2.5 million tons annually to 10.5 million tons.

President Tebboune emphasized the critical importance of fertilizer and mineral production in the modern world, reaffirming the state’s commitment to strengthening these vital sectors. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to increase the integration of domestic industry in the mechanical sector, with the goal of producing an Algerian-made car with 40% local content.
