Bir El Ater, Algeria – Algerian Customs officials have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of Pregabalin capsules into the country. The operation, conducted by the mobile unit of the Customs Division in Bir El Ater, under the jurisdiction of the Inspectorate of Customs Divisions, resulted in the seizure of 13,500 capsules of Pregabalin 300mg.
The operation was carried out in coordination with members of the National Gendarmerie in El Ogla El Malha. Acting on intelligence, customs and gendarmerie personnel intercepted the smugglers, leading to the discovery of the illicit cargo.
In addition to the substantial quantity of capsules, authorities also confiscated a motorcycle used to transport the smuggled goods. The motorcycle was reportedly modified to facilitate the concealment and movement of the contraband.
“This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of Algerian Customs to combat smuggling in all its forms,” stated a spokesperson for the Customs Authority. “Our efforts are focused on protecting public health and safety by preventing the entry of illegal and harmful substances into the country.”
Pregabalin is a prescription medication used to treat nerve pain and seizures. However, it is also known to have potential for abuse and addiction. The illegal trafficking of such substances poses a significant threat to public health.
This seizure is part of a broader effort by Algerian Customs to strengthen border security and crack down on the trafficking of illegal goods. Authorities have vowed to continue their vigilance and intensify efforts to disrupt smuggling networks operating in the region.
