Algiers – In a move aimed at strengthening oversight of imported goods, the Minister of Internal Trade and Regulation of the National Market, Amal Abdel Latif, oversaw the delivery of eight state-of-the-art mobile laboratories to eight ports across Algeria. The initiative, launched Monday in Algiers, is designed to enhance analytical control and reduce processing times for imported products.
The deployment of these fully-equipped mobile laboratories aligns with directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing the government’s commitment to safeguarding the national market and ensuring the quality and safety of imported goods. These laboratories will provide on-site testing capabilities, enabling customs and trade officials to conduct thorough analyses of imports directly at the port facilities.
The Ministry of Internal Trade and Regulation of the National Market stated that this initiative represents a significant upgrade to the country’s import control infrastructure. By providing advanced testing capabilities at key ports, the government aims to streamline the import process while simultaneously ensuring that all imported goods meet national standards and regulations. This will help to protect consumers and support local industries by preventing the entry of substandard or unsafe products.
The new mobile laboratories are equipped with the latest analytical technologies, allowing for rapid and accurate testing of a wide range of imported products, including food, pharmaceuticals, and industrial goods. This increased efficiency in import controls is expected to reduce delays, minimize storage costs, and ultimately improve the overall competitiveness of Algerian ports.
The selection of the eight ports to receive these mobile laboratories was based on a comprehensive assessment of import volumes and strategic importance. The Ministry anticipates that this investment will have a positive impact on the national economy by promoting fair trade practices and enhancing consumer confidence in the safety and quality of imported goods.
