Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Petroleum and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held talks with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, on Monday in Riyadh. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 21st session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from November 23 to 27, 2025.
The Algerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and senior officials from both countries were also present during the discussions. The meeting underscored the deep-rooted historical ties between Algeria and Saudi Arabia and the shared desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of hydrocarbons and mining.
Both ministers explored opportunities and promising prospects for collaboration in hydrocarbon exploration and development, the petrochemical industry, and the development of clean hydrogen. They emphasized the importance of strengthening industrial and investment partnerships between Algerian and Saudi institutions, notably Sonatrach on the Algerian side, and Aramco and Acwa Power Group on the Saudi side.
The discussions also covered strategic priorities for both countries, including promoting local content in energy value chains, knowledge sharing and technology transfer, developing training programs in the oil industry, and intensifying research and innovation. Minister Arkab highlighted Algeria’s commitment to implementing genuine energy transition projects focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the oil and gas industry.
Regarding the international oil market, the ministers expressed satisfaction with the developments in the global market, attributing it to ongoing efforts within the framework of OPEC and OPEC+. They reaffirmed their countries’ full commitment to implementing agreements within OPEC+ to stabilize the market, while also advocating for continued dialogue and coordination among all producers to maintain market balance and ensure long-term investments. The ministers emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between Algeria and Saudi Arabia to ensure stable energy markets.
