Algiers, November 24, 2025 – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib presided over a government meeting today focusing on key initiatives related to telecommunications and data governance.
The government examined a draft executive decree outlining the conditions and procedures for approving electronic communications equipment. This measure falls under Law No. 18-04, dated May 10, 2018, which establishes general rules for postal and telecommunications services. The decree aims to ensure that electronic communications equipment meets applicable standards and specifications, particularly concerning user safety and health, protection of electronic communications networks, and interoperability.
Furthermore, the government initiated the study of a draft presidential decree concerning the national data governance system. This project aligns with the President’s instructions regarding the national digital transformation strategy, specifically focusing on interconnecting various public bodies and administrations and establishing a national digital database.
This decree establishes a clear, comprehensive, and practical legal framework for the national data governance system. It reinforces state sovereignty over data of national interest and ensures organized, secure, and transparent management of public data.
Finally, as part of ongoing monitoring of major strategic investment projects, the government received a presentation on the progress of railway construction programs connecting Bechar and Tindouf (575 km) within the Gara Djebilet project, and Annaba and Djebel Onk in Tebessa (422 km) as part of the integrated phosphate project.
