Algiers, November 25, 2025 – The third annual International Date Salon commenced yesterday at the Exhibition Palace in Algiers. The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Yassine Oualid.
Organized by the National Chamber of Agriculture, the salon features over 150 national and international exhibitors. According to a statement from the ministry, this event is an important annual gathering coinciding with the date harvest season in Algeria. It encompasses all stakeholders active in this strategic sector, including producers, processors, artisans, exporters, cooperatives, professional organizations, project holders, start-up companies, technical institutes, research bodies, and laboratories.
The salon serves as a platform to showcase various date varieties and their derivatives, exchange expertise and experiences, and explore investment, marketing, and export opportunities.
The theme of this year’s salon is “Our Dates… Authenticity and Sustainable Economy.” The event provides an opportunity to present the latest technologies used in production systems, from date palm seedling production to product valorization in various forms (packaging, processing, export, etc.), including the technical processes involved in date palm cultivation.
Taking place in the Casbah Pavilion “C” from November 25th to 27th, 2025, the event aims to provide a platform for local and foreign players to interact and exchange expertise and experiences. It also seeks to highlight Algeria’s diverse and rich heritage in the field of dates and emphasize the importance of the date sector and its role in the country’s economic, social, and environmental development.
During his visit to the exhibition stands, Minister Oualid explored the variety of dates and date products from different regions of the country and spoke with exhibitors from several provinces.
Minister Oualid emphasized that the year-on-year increase in production will open up significant opportunities for Algerian dates to strengthen their position in global markets. He highlighted the recent inclusion of fresh date standards in the Codex Alimentarius, adopted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization, which will provide a strong boost to Algerian date exports, especially the “Deglet Nour” variety. This development is expected to significantly impact Algeria’s agricultural exports.
