Germany to Deploy Israeli Arrow 3 Missile Defense System

The German Armed Forces have announced the initial steps toward deploying the Israeli-made Arrow 3 missile defense system on German soil. According to a statement, the Inspector General and the Air Force Inspector will officially declare the system’s initial operational capability on December 3rd at the Holzdorf Air Base in the Schönewalde region.

This acquisition marks a significant milestone, providing Germany with the unprecedented ability to detect and intercept ballistic missiles originating from beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. The Arrow 3 system is seen as a direct response to the evolving security landscape and perceived threats.

The Arrow system is designed to fill a critical gap in missile defense capabilities. It is capable of destroying incoming missiles at altitudes exceeding 100 kilometers, effectively neutralizing threats in the upper atmosphere and near space. This capability represents a significant advancement in Germany’s defense infrastructure.

Germany is increasing its investments in air defense, highlighted by the launch of the European Sky Shield Initiative. This initiative aims to develop a continental missile defense network. The move is widely understood as a reaction to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Holzdorf Air Base, located south of Berlin near the borders of Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, and Saxony, will be the first of three planned locations for Arrow system deployment in Germany. The German arms industry is experiencing a surge, particularly following the government’s decision to bolster the German military, aiming to make it the strongest in Europe.

DZWatch will continue to monitor this developing situation and provide updates as they become available.

This deployment signifies a major step forward in Germany’s commitment to national and regional security.
