Bejaia, Algeria – A coordination meeting was held recently to accelerate the progress of the zinc and lead mine project located between the municipalities of Tala Hamza and Amizour in Bejaia province. The meeting, convened by the industrial mining group SONAREM, aimed to ensure the project’s timely launch and maximize its economic and social benefits.
The gathering included key stakeholders such as the acting Director-General of SONAREM, the Governor of Bejaia, the Director of the Algerian-Australian joint venture BZL, members of the National People’s Assembly, and the heads of the concerned municipalities. Discussions centered on the project’s importance in creating local jobs, providing specialized training, supporting the mining transformation industry, and facilitating the transfer of expertise and technology to benefit the national economy and regional development.
The project director presented a detailed overview of the progress made in administrative procedures, acknowledging the support received from local authorities. Reda Belhadj, representing SONAREM, outlined the group’s strategic vision and future operational plans, emphasizing a commitment to transparency and discipline throughout all phases of implementation to guarantee the project’s success.
The Governor issued directives to all stakeholders, including the directors of state property, regulation, public affairs, and the public treasury, to coordinate their efforts and complete procedures swiftly and efficiently. He emphasized the need for seamless collaboration to overcome any potential obstacles.
The meeting concluded with an open forum for national and local elected officials to raise their concerns. Reda Belhadj reaffirmed the commitment to protecting the rights of citizens receiving compensation and adhering to established deadlines, with the aim of making the project a model of efficiency and professionalism in Algeria’s mining sector. The project is expected to significantly boost the local economy and contribute to the national mining industry.
