Algeria and Tunisia Discuss Bilateral Ties, Libyan Crisis

Luanda, Angola – Algerian and Tunisian officials convened today to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing the ongoing crisis in Libya. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 7th African Union-European Union Summit held in Luanda, Angola.

Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, met with his Tunisian counterpart, Nabil Ammar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad. Discussions centered on the existing strong relationship between Algeria and Tunisia, characterized by brotherhood and cooperation.

Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the current state of relations and reviewed preparations for the upcoming session of the Joint High Commission between the two nations. This commission serves as a vital platform for coordinating policies and initiatives across various sectors.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to exchanging perspectives on the evolving situation in Libya. The ministers explored avenues for enhancing the role of neighboring countries in fostering dialogue and bridging the divide between the various factions within Libya. Both Algeria and Tunisia share a vested interest in the stability and security of Libya, given its proximity and the potential impact of the conflict on the wider region.

The discussions reflect a shared commitment to promoting peaceful resolutions to regional challenges and further solidifying the strategic partnership between Algeria and Tunisia.
