Algeria Seeks International Partnerships to Boost Mining Sector

Algiers – Algeria is actively pursuing stronger international partnerships to attract foreign investment and cutting-edge technologies to its mining sector. Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts in Algiers on Thursday.

Minister Arkab emphasized the importance of these partnerships in securing crucial capital and advanced technologies needed to modernize and expand the country’s mining operations. He stated that the strategy focuses on creating mutually beneficial (“win-win”) collaborations that also prioritize the development of local human resources.

“Our objective is to foster sustainable growth within the mining sector,” Minister Arkab explained. “This involves not only attracting investment but also ensuring the transfer of knowledge and skills to our Algerian workforce. We believe that international cooperation, built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared benefit, is the key to unlocking the full potential of our mineral resources.”

The Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines is reportedly engaged in ongoing discussions with several international companies and organizations to explore potential partnerships. These discussions are focused on a range of areas, including exploration, extraction, processing, and refining of various minerals.

Developing local expertise is a central tenet of this strategy. The government aims to equip Algerian professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage and operate advanced mining facilities, ensuring long-term sustainability and economic benefits for the nation.

The initiative reflects Algeria’s commitment to diversifying its economy and reducing its reliance on hydrocarbons. By developing its mining sector, Algeria aims to create new jobs, generate revenue, and contribute to the country’s overall economic growth. The National People’s Assembly is expected to play a key role in supporting these efforts through relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
