Damascus, Syria – Qatar and Jordan have strongly condemned an Israeli incursion into the Beit Jann area of rural Damascus, calling for international action to address the escalating situation. The condemnation follows reports of civilian casualties resulting from Israeli military actions in the region.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement asserting that the Israeli incursion constitutes a “blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and international law.” The statement emphasized that such actions exacerbate tensions and undermine efforts to establish security and stability in the region. The Qatari government urged the international community to take immediate action to halt these violations, protect civilians, and hold those responsible accountable under international law.
Reports indicate that Israeli forces entered Beit Jann earlier today, leading to clashes with local residents followed by shelling of the town. These actions reportedly resulted in casualties, with some individuals still believed to be trapped under rubble. Residents of Beit Jann held funeral processions today for those killed in the incursion.
Jordan’s Foreign Ministry echoed Qatar’s condemnation, describing the incursion as a “flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a blatant breach of international law.” Spokesperson Fuad al-Majali stated that the Israeli action represents a “dangerous and provocative escalation” that will only contribute to further conflict and tension in the region.
Al-Majali stressed the “need to halt all Israeli attacks and measures on Syrian territory, which constitute a violation of the United Nations Charter and Israel’s obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.” He reaffirmed Jordan’s support for Syria’s security, stability, and sovereignty, and called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to cease its provocative attacks.
The situation in the region remains tense, and the international community’s response is being closely watched. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as they become available.
