Putin: Ukraine Withdrawal from Donbas Key to Ceasefire

Moscow – Russian President Vladimir Putin stated today that Russia would halt its military operations in Ukraine if Kyiv agrees to withdraw its forces from the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters, President Putin emphasized that a complete cessation of hostilities hinges on Ukraine relinquishing control of the contested territories. He further addressed ongoing discussions regarding potential peace settlements.

“While a definitive agreement has not yet been reached concerning a resolution in Ukraine, proposals are being considered that could serve as a foundation for future accords,” Putin commented. He added that no final peace formula has been established, but noted that Washington is “taking our positions into account.”

The statement comes amid escalating tensions in the region and continued international efforts to broker a ceasefire and negotiate a lasting peace. The Donbas region has been a focal point of conflict for several years, and its status remains a central point of contention between Russia and Ukraine.
