A delegation representing both houses of the Algerian Parliament, led by Nasser Buteiche, participated in the meetings of the Standing Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday.
According to a statement from the National People’s Assembly, the meetings encompassed committees focused on Political Affairs, Security and Human Rights; Economic and Financial Affairs; Social Affairs and Education; Women’s Rights in Mediterranean Countries; Improving Quality of Life and Exchanges between Civil Societies and Culture; as well as the Committee on Energy, Environment, Water, and the Committee on Culture.
These meetings address a range of issues related to developing Mediterranean parliamentary work and strengthening coordination between member states. Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation, partnership, and regional integration between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, each within the respective committee’s area of expertise.
The work of these committees is expected to culminate in the formulation of practical recommendations aimed at supporting parliamentary dialogue and promoting joint working mechanisms, ultimately serving stability and development in the Mediterranean region.
The Committee on Political Affairs, Security and Human Rights convened initially, with the participation of parliamentarians Omar Ben Aouda and Ismail Mira. Subsequently, the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs, Social Affairs and Education held its meeting, attended by parliamentarians Azz الدين Zahou and Abdelkrim Boukhari.
Furthermore, Mrs. Fatima Rabiei delivered an intervention during the meeting of the committee concerned with women’s rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region, in her capacity as Vice-President of the committee. Later, the Education and Culture Committee convened with the participation of Mr. Buteiche Nasser and Mr. Zouhair Fares.
