Syria Condemns Israeli Violation of Sovereignty at UN

Syria’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Ibrahim al-Alabi, has reiterated his country’s firm stance that recent Israeli actions constitute a grave violation of its sovereignty. Al-Alabi emphasized that such infringements cannot be ignored by the international community.

His statement follows a recent escalation in tensions. Thirteen Syrians were reportedly killed in artillery and missile strikes targeting Beit Jinn in rural Damascus. The strikes occurred after residents allegedly surrounded Israeli soldiers who had entered the area to conduct an arrest operation, resulting in injuries to several Israeli officers and soldiers.

In an exclusive interview, Ambassador al-Alabi stressed that the severity of Israeli actions extends beyond Syrian territory. He argued that they undermine the international security system, which is predicated on respect for national sovereignty. He warned that global silence regarding violations of any nation’s sovereignty invites further regional chaos and instability.

The Syrian ambassador highlighted diplomatic efforts made in recent months that have yielded tangible results within the Security Council. According to al-Alabi, a majority of members have condemned Israeli practices. He further claimed that some delegations even adjusted their statements following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to southern Syria.

Al-Alabi stated that Syria is actively working to isolate Israel internationally through coordinated efforts with influential nations. He asserted that these efforts span from the White House to the Kremlin, and from Beijing to London and Paris, in a swift move to strengthen Syria’s regional and international presence.

The Syrian diplomat also accused certain factions within the Israeli government of fabricating security pretexts to obstruct any potential agreement with Syria. He noted a division within Israel between hardliners who oppose de-escalation for political reasons and more pragmatic figures who recognize that continued escalation harms Israel’s interests and relationships, particularly after the damage to its image following the Gaza conflict.

Al-Alabi concluded by stating that Syria is adopting a policy of ‘strategic patience’, while firmly asserting its rights on the international stage. DZWatch will continue to monitor this developing situation.
