Algiers – In a statement released Saturday, Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly and President of the Arab Parliamentary Union, reaffirmed unwavering support for the Palestinian cause on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Boughali emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains the central cause for the Arab nation. He asserted that the rights of the Palestinian people are ثابتة وغير قابلة للتصرف (fixed and non-negotiable), most importantly their right to self-determination and the establishment of a fully sovereign independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Arab Parliamentary Union stressed the importance of full adherence to the recent ceasefire agreement brokered in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The Union further called for holding the Zionist entity accountable for all violations and transgressions, ensuring the protection of Palestinian civilians and the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid.
Boughali urged national, regional, and international parliaments to intensify political and legal actions in support of the Palestinian people. This includes full recognition of the State of Palestine, the adoption of legislation and policies that criminalize settlements and the apartheid system, strengthening the accountability of occupation leaders before relevant international mechanisms, and supporting efforts to provide international protection for the Palestinian people against aggression and displacement.
The statement commended the legendary steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and their legitimate struggle for freedom and independence. It also praised popular and human rights solidarity movements around the world that contribute to exposing the practices of the occupation, advocating for justice and peace, and enabling the Palestinian people to achieve their national rights.
Furthermore, the Union affirmed its determination to continue its vigorous efforts in regional and international parliamentary forums, coordinating with Arab, Islamic, and international institutions to hold the international community, particularly the United Nations, accountable for its legal and moral responsibilities. This aims to ensure the end of the occupation and the realization of a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
